Irish oats do not need to take a long time to cook, if you follow the technique in this recipe for a flavorful way of making this traditional breakfast dish. My impatience with spending a long time at the stove helped me to find a quick way to make Irish oats.
Find a quart container with a lid – a recycled yogurt container works well – and place all dry ingredients and banana (if used). Mix lightly and add the water. Close the container and let stand at room temperature overnight – four hours minimum. To prepare, pour contents of the container into a medium saucepan and cook over a medium / medium-low heat for about fifteen minutes to remove excess water. Continue to cook for several more minutes, if desired.
Feel free to adjust the amounts of cinnamon and ginger to suit your own tastes.
