Aleppo Peppers

Rated 4.9 out of 5
Based on 55 reviews

Named after the Syrian city, the Aleppo pepper found its way along the Silk Road into kitchens and recipes across Central Asia. From Turkish kebabs to Uzbek lamb braises, and to the now-global phenomenon that is avocado toast, these pepper flakes add color, mild heat, and a unique salty-raisiny flavor.

Details

The Aleppo chili pepper, also called Halaby or Turkish pepper, has a salty flavor with subtle notes of raisin, pomegranate and even sun-dried tomato. Though this pepper originates in the Syrian town of Aleppo, today we source it from a Turkish region just south of Aleppo. Use this chili pepper anywhere you would use the crushed red chili flake; add it to pasta, pizza, chili or anywhere you want to add a flavorful mild heat. These chiles average around 2,500-7,500 Scoville heat units. Ingredients: Chiles, vegetable oil, salt.

So great in soups!

As always the quality of this Spice House spice is great.

For cooks: if you’re not using Aleppo pepper in soups, do try it! My current favorite is Food52’s sweet potato stew (contains Aleppo pepper and maple syrup and is so delicious you really won’t believe it) which would just not be as good without this particular spice. ❤️

Aleppo pepper

I don't care much or smokey or hot things. When I do want just a little heat, but not as much as Cayenne, this pepper is excellent. It provides a hint of heat with very very little smoky taste.
