Aleppo Peppers

Named after the Syrian city, the Aleppo pepper found its way along the Silk Road into kitchens and recipes across Central Asia. From Turkish kebabs to Uzbek lamb braises, and to the now-global phenomenon that is avocado toast, these pepper flakes add color, mild heat, and a unique salty-raisiny flavor.

Details

The Aleppo chili pepper, also called Halaby or Turkish pepper, has a salty flavor with subtle notes of raisin, pomegranate and even sun-dried tomato. Though this pepper originates in the Syrian town of Aleppo, today we source it from a Turkish region just north of Aleppo. Use this chili pepper anywhere you would use the crushed red chili flake; add it to pasta, pizza, chili or anywhere you want to add a flavorful mild heat. These chiles average around 2,500-7,500 Scoville heat units. Ingredients: Chiles, vegetable oil, salt.

OBSESSED

I'm so obsessed with this spice, I've gone through multiple jars in less than a year. I sprinkle this on everything, especially cottage cheese and hummus.

You need to sell larger quantities!

I wasn't familiar with Aleppo Peppers, but read a review in Serious Eats and thought I'd give it a try. I bought the flat-pack, and since that first try we've put it on so many other things. I halves little potatoes, added olive oil and a very healthy portion of Aleppo peppers, mixed them and baked them for 20 minutes. Fantastic. We also added it to scrambled eggs, and some pork chops. A new favourite seasoning.

Big taste in small towns

I love cooking especially Middle Eastern lamb dishes. Spice House is the best resource for spices not available in local grocery stores.
