Best Ever Sugar Cookies Recipe

Preparation Instructions

Cream the butter and shortening together with a mixer. Then mix the sugar and eggs in with the butter mixture.
In a separate bowl, mix flour, cream of tartar and baking soda. Slowly add the sifted flour mixture into the butter mixture. Blend in extracts.
Roll in small balls and place on a cookie sheet. Flatten the balls with the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar.
Bake for 8-10 minutes in a 350 degree oven.

These cookies were a hit among friends and family. I added an extra teaspoon of lemon extract next batch though to give it more of a lemon flavor.

I have been making this recipe for a long time and it is a favorite. Last time I made them I added cinnamon and cardamom to the sugar used for dipping the glass in.


I have been making these cookies for years! I recently lost the recipe and was frantic!!! I searched the web and finally found it!! OMG!!! I couldn't believe it!! Thank you Spice House!! I don't consider myself much of a baker, but following this recipe to the "T", will always give great results!


This is going in my recipe book. My husband said this cookie compares to his favourite cookie. The dough doesn't work for rolling out but that is ok since I like the round ones with a sprinkle of sugar best anyway. I did add a 1/2 teaspoon more of vanilla.
