Red Cabbage

This is part of the German Feast Plate, along with California Roast Chicken, Brown Mustard Gravy, and Bread Dumplings.

Red Cabbage Recipe

  • 2 tablespoons butter, unsalted
  • 1 small head red cabbage, coarsely chopped
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 green apple, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar

Preparation Instructions

Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the cabbage, onions and apple and stir to mix. Add the salt, cloves, vinegar, water and sugar and cook for approximately 20-25 minutes until the cabbage is tender. Stir occasionally and add additional sugar and salt to taste.
