This hot dish is comfort food with a capital 'C'. Delicious, satisfying and it leaves one tempted to take a second helping. As a variation, we sometimes open a can of water chestnuts, drain out all liquid, cut the water chestnuts into fourths and put them into the casserole to add a bit of crunch.
