Cinnamon Ornaments Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup thick applesauce, warmed (sweetened applesauce seems to work the best)
  • 1-2 tablespoons white glue

Preparation Instructions

Mix all ingredients well. Place small amount on waxed paper. Place another sheet on top. Roll out to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut with cookie cutters. Make a hole to insert string or ribbon. Dry on cookie sheet or wax paper for 2-3 days, turning them over daily. Hang in closet after Christmas. You can also coat one side with a water and glue solution or modpodge to help make them stiff and less crumbly.

Helpful Hints

Adding nutmeg, allspice, cloves, or apple pie spice will enhance scent.

I use the same basic recipe but add 1 T orris root and a drop or two of apple fragrance. The orris root seems to set the fragrances and they hold for several years. Don't forget the nutmeg and clove powder. It really smells like Christmas.
