An old fashioned recipe that has been tweaked over the last decade and a personal favorite. I started baking these for people who were allergic to chocolate and nuts. These are great with a cold glass of milk.
About two dozen large cookies
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Baking time--8-10 minutes.
In mixing bowl combine sugar, butter molasses and egg. Beat medium speed until well blended. Add flour, baking soda and spices and beat on low until dough forms. Shape into one inch balls and roll in coarse sugar before baking.
If you want a really spicy cookie, bump the five spice powder up an additional teaspoon.

With the extra five-spice I cannot keep the cookie jar full.

These are absolutely marvelous. I am going to use more 5 spice in my second batch. Be sure to give enough room for them to spread--boy do they!
