Molasses Spice Cookies Recipe

Molasses Spice Cookies Notes

An old fashioned recipe that has been tweaked over the last decade and a personal favorite. I started baking these for people who were allergic to chocolate and nuts. These are great with a cold glass of milk.

Ingredients

  • 3 teaspoons Chinese Five Spice
  • 1 Cup White Sugar
  • 3/4 Cup Butter, softened
  • 1/4 Cup Dark Molasses
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 Cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons Baking Soda
  • Coarse Sugar

Serves / Yields

About two dozen large cookies

Preparation Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Baking time--8-10 minutes.

In mixing bowl combine sugar, butter molasses and egg. Beat medium speed until well blended. Add flour, baking soda and spices and beat on low until dough forms. Shape into one inch balls and roll in coarse sugar before baking.

Helpful Hints

If you want a really spicy cookie, bump the five spice powder up an additional teaspoon.
