Italian Seasonings Spice Assortment Gift Box

The Italian Food Lover's gift box is very versatile. Who doesn't have their favorite Italian restaurant? Homemade Italian food is better yet. This box contains four great seasonings for Italian cooking. While they're all relatively simple to use, the end results are so authentic that your friends might think you took a job moonlighting at the local trattoria! Great for pasta, pizza, garlic bread and more. The packing material in your box can be used for cooking as well: Korintje Indonesian cinnamon sticks, whole nutmeg from Grenada, and Turkish select bay leaves.

The spices contained in the box are: LITTLE ITALY NEW YORK STYLE ITALIAN HERBS We like to call these Italian herbs with an attitude! Actually, we have taken the best combination of herbs frequently used in Italian cooking (basil, oregano, thyme, marjoram and savory), and added the sophistication of dehydrated lemon peel and minced garlic. This blend pairs beautifully with any dish that features tomatoes--from spaghetti or marinara sauce to salsa. Even if you only make frozen pizzas, rub a little between your palms and sprinkle on pizza before baking. You won’t believe what a difference it will make. It also makes a great salt-free, sugar-free Italian salad dressing base. Mix 2 Tablespoons of this spice blend with 1/3 cup red wine vinegar and 2/3 cup olive oil.

OLD TAYLOR STREET CHEESE SPRINKLE Named for the historic Chicago neighborhood which has a long history of Italian "campanilismo", or sense of place. You can still find it today in the many flourishing Italian bakeries, delicatessens, trattorias and pizzerias that flourish in the neighborhood. This seasoning honors the true flavors of the neighborhood--strong on garlic and rich, romano cheese. Pick up a loaf of Italian at your favorite local bakery, drizzle with good olive oil, shake on Taylor Street Cheese Sprinkle and bake for DA BEST garlic bread. Also makes a wonderful Sicilian style breading when mixed with plain bread crumbs. Use 3 Tablespoons per cup for breading. Bread veal cutlets, pork chops, eggplant or mozzarella sticks. It's tasty on popcorn or mixed into sour cream for baked potato dressing. Hand mixed from: Romano cheese powder, salt, garlic powder, scallions, powdered green peppercorns, Italian parsley, and, of course, basil.

PESTO PASTA SEASONING With just a little preparation, you can make pesto just as good as those expensive bottles in the local specialty shop, at half the price. In blender, pulse half cup seasoning and 4 Tablespoons pine nuts until nuts are finely ground. Add 1/4 cup water and let absorb about ten minutes. Add 1/3 cup olive oil, or more, until desired consistency is reached--thicker for vegetable dip, thinner for tossing with hot pasta. This blend is gread when fresh basil is scarce in the off-season. It makes a great spread on French bread. Just add tomatoes and fresh cheese for a great meatless sandwich. For pesto bread, add this blend to the dough before baking. Hand mixed from: Parmesan cheese, Romano cheese, sweet basil, fine black pepper, garlic, salt (only 2%) and sugar (only 1%)

PURE TOMATO POWDER This product is made from pure sweet cherry tomatoes, spray dried, with no additives. All you do for tomato paste or sauce is mix it with water--1 part powder to 3 parts water for paste, and 4 parts water for sauce. Instant sauce without messy jars, tubes or clean up. It's perfect for recipes that call for 1 Tablespoon of tomato paste. If you make your own pasta from scratch, add it to the dough. In addition to the terrific flavor, the pasta becomes a beautiful bright orange color. Sprinkle it on garlic bread, pizza or salads for flavor enhancement. Give paprika a break and try this sprinkled over deviled eggs! Also serves as a thickener, so it's a natural for sauces, stews and gumbos.
