History

Our shop in the Old Town neighborhood of Chicago opened its doors in June 2000. The history of the neighborhood dates back to the 1850s, when folks sold chickens and produce on the dirt street that is now occupied by the famous Second City comedy group, several live theaters, eclectic restaurants and The Spice House. At night it is lit with old harp-style street lamps and gas lanterns. It retains the feel of an old neighborhood while surrounded by modern high-rises and Chicago's Gold Coast.

Evanston Spice House

Our Old Town shop is our smallest space, but it's one of our busiest. We serve some of Chicago's best chefs, who appreciate our commitment to freshness. We're as happy to help customers who stroll in for a sniff or a taste, or just to see what's new. Our back garden is a gorgeous space for events in the summer; we've hosted spice lectures, book signings, and a daily food tour. This shop was the backdrop for an episode of “Real Simple” for PBS, which showcased Patty’s tutelage of spice storage techniques. Come visit us the next time your'e in Chicago. We’re just a hop, skip and a jump north of the loop.
