I am so glad I ordered this. The Shichimi Togarashi goes on everything! Potatoes, pasta, greens, even salad. I'll run out of this soon. Sichuan Chili BBQ Tub is great on pretty much any meat. The Yuzu Kosho is also great but a little more specific. It's great on fish and salads and has a really "fresh" taste. The Black Garlic Ramen Pepper is great for ramen or any other soup. This is such a good variety pack that I would recommend to anyone but especially fans of Asian flavors.
The presentation of these spice mixes is very classy - and yes, you can smell them when you open the box. My favorite has become the Yuzu Kosho - when preparing fish of any kind I reach for this rather than lemon or lemon pepper. The tartness of the Yuzu brightens up anything - flounder, tilapia, crab - it's all good. The Sichuan Chile BBQ Rub is amazing! So much better even than my own rub recipe, which has won awards. I loved these so much I sent them to my son who is delving into Japanese cuisine.
Purchased this for a relative who is into Asian cuisine and watched Morimoto on Iron Chef back in the day. No complaints - I had some concerns about what the package would look like since I mailed it to them directly, but it was a well-presented, well-packed box. I've been told the scents of the spices were phenomenal to be hit with upon opening the box. If you're looking for a good gift for a home cook who is into or is exploring Asian cuisine, this is the way to go.
