Hungarian Dumplings for Chicken Paprikash Notes

Serve with Hungarian Chicken Paprikash.

  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup COLD water
  • 2 tablespoons butter

4-6 people

Preparation Instructions

Put dry ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix with a fork. Add butter and flour. Mix with your hands. Drop 1/4"-1/2" strips (or size of a tsp balls) into a large pot with boiling water. Do about 20-30 at a time. Dumplings will be cooked when they rise to the top of the water.

Directions fail to mention incorporating eggs and "cold" water. For a novice cook, this might be disconcerting. The recipe is very similar to my Hungarian mother's recipe.
