Orange Peel

Orange Peel Zest, Minced Dehydrated

Our orange peel is just as tangy as freshly grated zest, and far less work. These extra fancy California small minced pieces offer exceptional flavor and color.

Orange peel granules are the outer peel of the orange, not the pith, or white part, of the rind. To use, you only need add a third of what your recipe calls for in fresh peel. To rehydrate, add three parts water to one part peel and let stand 15 minutes (this is rarely necessary).

The zest is the part of the fruit which is highest in oil, which is why it is so often called for in baking. It is also why we recommend storing it in an air-tight jar. The essential oil content is so high (therefore, the flavor is excellent) that it will actually soak through a bulk bag in a matter of hours.

Try adding it to breads, cookies, pies, biscotti, cheesecake and other dessert dishes. Often called for in marinades, orange peel can be added to rice for extra flavor, or used to spice up hot or iced tea.

Storage in air-tight jars highly recommended, because of its strong flavor oil content.
