Madagascar produces most of the vanilla sold commercially, and consequently is the quintessential, familiar vanilla flavor for most people. It is the flavor imitated in artificial vanilla, although the real thing has a full, rich, intense flavor no imitation can compare to. This pure, single-strength vanilla is made from 100 beans per gallon, extracted in a time-consuming slow-percolation cold method to preserve every nuance of flavor and aroma.
Each bottle of extract we sell comes with a small vanilla bean inside. While you're using the extract, the bean adds flavor over time. When the extract is gone, use the bean to flavor your sugar (or vodka), or for baking.
I don't think a really good pie can be made without a dozen or so children peeking over your shoulder as you stoop to look in on it every little while.
