The Spice House is open for business. We have adapted with the circumstances to enhance safety for our employees, customers, and communities. Answers to most of the questions we have received are on this page. If you have other questions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our website is taking orders—more orders than at any time in our 63-year history. Delivery is delayed by up to two weeks as a result of massive order volume. Flatpacks still ship for free, but same-day fulfillment is temporarily suspended.
If your order is urgent, please select a premium shipping option for fulfillment within 24 hours:
- UPS 2nd Day
- UPS Next Day
Select these paid options for expedited shipping within a few days:
- USPS First Class
- UPS Ground
- USPS Priority Mail
We apologize for the inconvenience caused by long delivery times. We pride ourselves on filling most orders within 24 hours and regret we cannot meet our usual shipping standards at this time.
We are hiring, which should speed us up. We are thrilled that your orders are making it possible for us to hire people who need a job right now. We appreciate your patience as we build our team while enhancing the safety of our workplace. More on that below.
Our stores are closed to the public, but open for pickup orders in Chicago, Evanston, and Milwaukee. Please place your order online and select Store Pickup at checkout. Click here for step-by-step instructions. You will receive an email when your order is ready. Please allow 24 hours for us to pack your pickup order. For the safety of our staff and customers, all orders must be placed and paid for online. Modifications are not possible at time of pickup. We are unable to take orders at our door.
The Spice House is based in Illinois and Wisconsin, each of which is under a mandatory “stay at home” order. The Illinois order is here. The Wisconsin order is here. As a food business, we are permitted to operate under these orders. Federal guidelines are described at cisa.gov. We are part of the Food and Agriculture Sector.
The Spice House is registered with the Food and Drug Administration and inspected by local health departments. We have always followed strict food safety standards. This includes documented procedures and required training for all employees. We updated our documented procedures in February to address new threats posed by COVID-19. Specifically, we have:
- Enhanced our already-aggressive sanitization procedures with additional focus on surfaces used for packaging and fulfillment.
- Implemented and enforced strict social distancing requirements.
- Issued face masks to all employees and required their use at all times.
- Discouraged the use of public transportation and made alternative arrangements for employee transportation.
To preserve social distancing, we are staffing a second shift at our warehouse. Rather than filling our building during daylight hours, we are extending the day to make sure everyone has ample space at all times.
We cherish the relationships we have with so many wonderful home cooks, chefs, bakers, brewers, sausage makers, and picklers. We are keeping our company running for you. Your support means everything to us. Thank you for your patience as we fill every order carefully, safely, and with the utmost attention to quality.
We appreciate all of your kind emails, chats, and phone calls. You can help us out by liking and sharing our posts on Instagram and Facebook. You can communicate with us by emailing email@example.com. Use the Order Notes field at checkout to encourage our spice crew. Friendly notes make our day.
Please keep cooking. Please stay safe. Spices are on the way.
