Easy Soft Boiled Eggs

Soft boiled eggs are an easy way to upgrade your breakfast, protein plates, salads, & more! We love to season ours with Lakeshore Shallot & Herb.

Yield: 2 eggs

  • Precision timing is the secret to achieving tender whites and rich, custardy yolks every time.
  • An ice bath stops the cooking process instantly, preserving that ideal soft-set texture.
  • A sprinkle of high-quality spices transforms eggs into something crave-worthy.

Preparation Instructions:

Fill a pot with water and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Once water is boiling, reduce the heat slightly to a gentler boil.

Carefully lower your eggs into the boiling water. Cook for 6-7 minutes for the perfect soft boiled doneness. If you want a runnier egg, cook for 5 minutes.

Once eggs are cooked to your preferred doneness, turn off the heat and carefully move the eggs to an ice bath. Let the eggs chill for at least 2 minutes.

If making toast soldiers, cut toast into strips.

Carefully crack the top of your soft boiled egg. Season with Lakeshore Shallot & Herb blend. Enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions

How long should I boil eggs for a soft-boiled texture?

Typically 6–7 minutes yields set whites with a soft, jammy yolk, though slight adjustments depend on egg size and preference.

Why is an ice bath important after boiling?

It halts cooking immediately, preventing the yolks from firming up too much and making peeling easier.

What’s the best way to peel soft-boiled eggs?

Gently tap and roll the egg to crack the shell, then peel under running water to help release it cleanly.

How can I add flavor to soft-boiled eggs?

Finish with a pinch of salt, pepper, or spice blends—smoked paprika, chili flakes, or herb mixes add depth and character.

Can I make soft-boiled eggs ahead of time?

They’re best enjoyed fresh, but you can cook them slightly ahead and rewarm briefly in hot water before serving.
