Family Favorite Homemade Chili

Family Favorite Homemade Chili

I can't think of any other dish that screams “Football Season!” as loudly as a good pot of chili can.

My family loves both, but homemade chili is a MUST with us! Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against canned chili. I just prefer the yummy goodness and richness of homemade, not to mention it makes the house smell so darn good.

I came up with this recipe through trial and error and I have to say, as good as I thought it was with other chili mixes, The Spice House Chili Powder really gave this recipe some extra added flavor that had my family wowing while gobbling it up bowl by scrumptious bowl full!

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef, browned and drained
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup green bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil divided
  • 2 15-ounce cans light red kidney beans, drained
  • 1 28-ounce can petite diced tomato
  • 1 28-ounce can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 15-ounce can tomato sauce
  • 2 cups Garden Fresh Gourmet Sweet Onion Salsa
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Preparation Instructions:

Using 1 Tablespoon of the olive oil, sauté the onion and pepper until tender then add your garlic and continue to cooking just until the garlic is aromatic. Your mouth should already be watering by now!

In a large pot, add all your ingredients and stir until combined well. Cover and let simmer for at least an hour on medium-low heat.

Serve with all your favorite toppings or serve over a baked potato AND all your favorite toppings.

More About This Recipe

The longer it simmers, the better it tastes! This recipe also works great with a crock-pot. I would like to point out that the brand and kind of salsa is what my family prefers and I have tried many different brands and varieties of flavors. Please feel free to experiment and change it up to make it your own so you can say with good conscience that it is, in fact, your “Family Favorite Homemade Chili.”

Just wanted to comment on this Chili recipe………IT IS MINE and THE TOPS. I may make a larger batch, but I use all ingredients. I use Aldi’s salsa……it is the best thick and tasty salsa I have tasted and it is SO good in Chili.
