Za'atar

From the Arabic for thyme, our za'atar is mixed with lemony sumac, nutty sesame, minty hyssop, and oregano. Spread it on a pita with olive oil, or sprinkle it on roast vegetables, meatballs, and kebabs. For a great dip, simply mix into olive oil and plain yogurt.

Details

Za'atar spice is often mixed with olive oil and spread on bread. Some prefer to do this at the table, while others prefer to bake this mixture into the bread rounds. Za'atar also serves as a seasoning to sprinkle on vegetables, salads, meatballs or kebabs. Much like sausage seasonings, each country and family has a distinctive style of Za'atar. Our particular blend is Israeli in style. *Sumac is a member of the cashew family. Ingredients: Sumac (sumac, salt), sesame, thyme, hyssop, oregano.

So Many Uses!

I love this stuff, we make a good bit of Middle Eastern food at my house so I go through a surprising amount of this. I was mixing my own, but this is easier to order and better tasting.

I use it with oil to dip bread in, bake it into breads, on meatballs and kebabs, on veggies, and on a salad or in salad dressing. It’s so flavorful and well balanced, it’s definitely worth trying.

Great with rice

I recently tried this spice and added it to my rice cooker a few minutes before serving. Delicious!
