Introducing the Flatpack

Flatpacks with spices

Since our founding in 1957, The Spice House has pushed boundaries for the spice trade. We are always tinkering and innovating. That is how we invented great blends like Vulcan’s Fire Salt, Lake Shore Drive Seasoning, and Back of the Garlic Pepper Rub—always produced in small batches to maximize freshness and flavor.

Our newest innovation is the Flatpack, and it may change the way you use spices.

Free Shipping—Always!

Flatpacks always ship for free. Even if you buy just one.

Fresh Spices Whenever You Need Them

Because Flatpacks always ship for free, you can order any spice whenever you need it. Need a refill of Saigon Cinnamon? Need Back of the Yards for your roast? Order a single Flatpack!

Easy Flavor Exploration

More than 250 of our spices are available as Flatpack refills. Free shipping on all Flatpacks means you can discover a world of flavors with ease whenever culinary inspiration strikes. Go ahead, start exploring. We've got you covered on shipping.

Better Storage & Organization

Spice jars take up a lot of space and finding the jar you need can be a nightmare. Flatpacks are designed with spice storage and organizational challenges in mind. Our Flatpack stands up on its own and saves space in your spice cabinet. All Flatpacks reseal tightly to ensure your spices stay fresh longer. Our beautiful Flatpack Holder is made in Minneapolis and available for purchase here.

Sustainability

Spice jars are heavy and bulky to ship. This increases our collective carbon footprint and increases the cost of shipping. Flatpack shipments are less than half the weight of our jar shipments. This reduces our carbon footprint and saves you money on shipping since Flatpacks ship for free—always!

Beautiful Inside & Out

All of our Flatpacks are made with high-quality kraft paper and are labeled with our elegant new labels. Flatpacks are just as visually stunning as our jars and match the beauty of our flavorful spices.

I’m sold on the flat packs and bought multiple organizers. It would be great if you sold empty envelopes just like you sell empty jars. I would love to consolidate existing spices into the same containers. (Or tip us off as to the manufacturer?)

Hi Jessica Kruse,

Good question. You could think of all Flatpacks as refill bags for our spice jars. Each bag is a 1/2 cup of spices, 4 ounces by volume. The weight of each Flatpack will vary from product to product.

JESSICA KRUSE on March 9th, 2020

What’s the difference between the bagged spice and the flat pack? How many ounces are in the flat pack?

Donna Silva Berry on January 14th, 2020

Thank you so much for the flat packs. So convenient and a smarter way to ship and store. BRAVA.

Love the new flat packs. They look great, store nicely, and now I expect I won’t need to keep a list of what I need to order all at once. As I need an item or two, if there is a flat pack available, I can order right away.

@Bob Bugnacki we do not have pricing information yet on the side by side wooden holder, but we anticipate having them ready for sale in early December.

Bob Bugnacki on November 18th, 2019

how much would the side by side wood holder cost?

Fabulous idea! Love your spices and so happy you are reducing your carbon footprint and your customers’ waste, as well!

MerryJo Zygel on November 11th, 2019

Love the idea overall. I’ll probably start leaving some spices in these as soon as I work out their storage. It will be handy to date the packages and even make the occasional recipe note. But I also re-use my jars, especially for my higher-volume spices. I’ll echo Stephen’s question – would it be possible to ship a jar label with flatpack orders?
