Amchoor Powder

Citrusy, tangy, and light gold in color, amchoor is widely used in the samosas, pakoras, chutneys, and pickles of North Indian cuisine. To make Amchoor Powder, unripe mangoes are harvested early, dried, then pulverized. This powder is a fine way to enjoy the flavor and nutritional benefits of mangoes when they are out of season.

Amchoor is used in curries and stir-fries, and with both vegetables and meat; it has a slight tenderizing effect when used in meat dishes. Use this powder as a souring agent or to add a fruity tartness without adding moisture. Ingredients: Amchoor.

The Secret Ingedient

Absolutely love amchoor powder, as it is that secret lemony/fruity ingredient in delectable Indian samosas and adds that extra bit of color along with the turmeric. Glad The Spice House carries it... hard to come by where I live.
