Within the Hawaiian Islands, the island of Molokai is the least developed meaning nearly no industrial pollution affects the purity of the local waters. Seawater is mixed with local red alaea clay and dried inside of a custom designed solar evaporator which leaves the large salt crystals intact and retains the valuable trace minerals and electrolytes. Molokai salt is bottled under supervision of members of the Salt Masters Guild of Hawaii. Red salt is used in traditional Hawaiian dishes such as poke and pipikaula. Although the dominant flavor or these crystals is pure salt, sensitive palates may discern a slightly sweet finish from the added iron oxide-rich clay. Ingredients: Sea salt, red alaea volcanic clay.
This salt is great on fresh vegetables as snacks or atop a salad. It has much more depth of flavor than table salt and brings out the natural flavors of whatever you accent it with.
I made some oven roasted chicken breast and made sure to use no salt in preparing them. The salt I placed in a salt cellar at the table. My family loved the crunch the salt was a big hit. I’ll be trying the black Hawaiian salt next on some pan fried pork chops!
This salt is fantastic on veggies and pretty much everything else.
This exotic, healthy salt brings a unique flavor to dishes. It is full
of flavor. Especially like it in plain greek yogurt with pecans and apples.
I've never tried anything other than Kosher Salt and I'm very pleased to find that this salt was worth a try! Wonderfully unique flavor but still provides the comfort/taste that salt gives!
