Staff Tips & Tricks

  • Sprinkle on top of banana bread before putting in the oven for a sweet, spicy and crunchy top.
  • Make an at-home iced coffee taste extra special with this flavored sugar blend.
  • Add to French toast for a dash of sweetness.
  • It can also be your new secret ingredient for homemade pie crusts or apple crisps.

About This Spice

The blend--created by the founder of the Spice House--begins with premium small-batch vanilla sugar, to which we add freshly ground Vietnamese Saigon cinnamon and a small amount of aromatic ground Indian cardamom. This flavored sugar blend is perfect in tea and reminiscent of the Middle Eastern tradition of flavoring coffee with cardamom. This blend was formally named, "Chicago Old Town Spiced Sugar."

My all time favorite!

I love this blend! I was devastated when Chicago Old Town Spice disappeared until I learned it has simply been renamed. I sprinkle it on hot cereal or buttered toast and English muffins, add a tablespoon or two to my shortbread recipe, then top off with more before baking. I always have it on my shelf.
