Chiles, Aleppo Pepper

These bright, fruity Aleppo chili flakes have a tangy flavor and moderate heat, making them an excellent choice anywhere pepper flakes are called for. Aleppo spice is perfect for adding a bit of heat to Middle Eastern and Mediterranean dishes.

In the past, we sourced Aleppo chili pepper from the Syrian town of Aleppo near the southern Turkish border, which is often considered one of the culinary meccas of the Mediterranean.  Currently, most or our product is being sourced from an area about 40 miles north of Aleppo, in the Turkish region of Kahramanmaras. Aleppo pepper has a moderate heat level with a mild, cumin-like undertone, a bit of fruitiness, and a hint of a salt and vinegar.

Aleppo chili offers a pleasant variation from your usual crushed red peppers. It has a very robust flavor that hits you in the back of your mouth, tickles your throat and dissipates quickly. As a staff favorite at the Spice House, we recommend trying Aleppo pepper in place of regular crushed red chilies on pizzas, pasta and salads.
