Gathered at their peak under the Andalusian sun, our Anise Seeds lend a fleeting and floral scent reminiscent of licorice. Use these whole seeds in Spanish tomato sauces, German brines, and sweet Italian sausages. Also available in ground.

The Spice House

Details

Anise Seed is native to the Mediterranean basin and has been used throughout history in both sweet and savory applications. In the Mediterranean, anise is featured heavily in breads, cookies and liquors, and the Romans even ended their elaborate feasts with anise cakes. In small amounts, anise makes a nice addition to sausage or in tomato sauce. Despite their name, anise seeds are not botanically related to star anise, but they have nearly identical flavors and in ground form can be substituted for each other. Ingredients: Anise seeds.

A must have for the morning eats

I use these anise seeds, with some other stuff, to doctor-up the store-bought Johnsonville sausage products in my morning sausage & egg sandwich.

Anise Seed

I was so impressed with the packaging and the efficiency of receiving the spice so quickly. That would have rated a 5 star. But after making to batches of a 75 year old family recipe and can only give the anise seeds one star or less. Both batches have such an odd flavor due to the odd flavor of the seeds. I will have to find the McCormick Anise Seeds on line since it is difficult to find them other than during holiday baking months. McCormick seeds definitely have a different sweet taste and smell that has always made the heirloom cookies turn out delicious. The seeds I purchased at Spice House had a bit of a bitter flavor.
