Star Anise Pieces

Cooks from Saigon to Little Saigon infuse pho with this delicate spice. Star Anise Pieces lend Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup a sweet richness reminiscent of licorice. In Europe, it 'stars' in poached pears and tea infusions. Also available in Ground Star Anise.

Details

Star anise is common in many Chinese dishes, especially recipes involving pork or chicken. Also known as Chinese anise, it features the same three essential oils as the unrelated anise seed. The flavor of star anise is noticeably stronger than the anise seed. Our Whole Star Anise can be used in pickling and brining, marinades, and tea; you can also steep these pieces in milk when making ice cream or custard to add an extra licorice-like note. Ingredients: Star anise.

A new addition to the pantry

Vadouvan Curry spice, used in a Pad See Ew variant with shrimp. Fantastic! My first experiment with Vadouvan, now I'm up to 6 curry spices in the cabinet.

Economical

One of most economical sources for star anise I’ve found.
