Amharic for pepper, berbere forms the flavor base of classic Ethiopian dishes such as doro wot and misir wot. Like baharat and ras el hanout, it is ubiquitous in the land, but flavor composition varies from region to region, and even from household to household.

This Ethiopian berbere blend can be used as a dry rub or blended with oil or water to create a flavorful paste. It’s essential for traditional Ethiopian dishes, or tasty as a rub for grilled vegetables, fish and poultry. Our berbere spice is blended in small batches from: paprika, onion, fenugreek seed, fenugreek leaf, salt, chiles, shallots, garlic, cinnamon, pepper, ginger, cardamom, nutmeg, cumin, allspice, and cloves.
