Amazingly Versatile!

I stocked up on this seasonal selection while I can only hope it becomes part of the regular selections. The salt has become my favorite seasoning for sautéing vegetables. Try this with scallops and not just shrimp, you will not be disappointed! The sugar makes for a unique twist to add to lemonade and my iced tea (including some fruity herbal teas). I look forward to experimenting with recipes to figure out where else I can use this salt and salt. It's a must try!

Yuzu set perfection

Just the right amount of citrus, used salt in guacamole, used sugar in cocktail.

Yuzu Flavor

Alright, here’s my take on the Yuzu Citrus Spice Powder Salt/Sugar Set from The Spice House, as if I’m just a regular person who loves experimenting in the kitchen!
I got this Yuzu Citrus Salt and Sugar set as a gift, and I’ve been having a blast with it. The packaging is super cute—two little jars, one with the salt blend and one with the sugar blend, both with that vibrant, zesty yuzu vibe. The moment you open them, the aroma hits you—bright, citrusy, with a floral hint that’s way more complex than your standard lemon or lime. It’s like a little burst of Japanese sunshine.
The Salt Blend: This one’s a mix of kosher salt, cane sugar, aji amarillo, and yuzu oil. I tried it first as a finishing salt on some roasted asparagus, and wow, it added this tangy, slightly spicy kick that made the veggies pop. I also rimmed a margarita glass with it (as suggested on the website), and it was a game-changer—my friends were raving about how it elevated their drinks. I’ve since sprinkled it on grilled fish and even some breakfast potatoes, and it’s super versatile. The only thing is, you gotta be light-handed because the salt can overpower if you go too heavy.
The Sugar Blend: This has cane sugar, tamarind powder, ginger, and yuzu oil. I used it in a glaze for some shortbread cookies, and they turned out amazing—sweet with a tart, exotic twist. I also stirred a pinch into my morning tea, and it gave it a refreshing, citrusy depth without being overly sweet. My favorite experiment was sprinkling it over fresh mango slices—so good! The tamarind and ginger add a subtle warmth that makes this more than just a sugary topping.
Pros: Both blends are incredibly versatile. The salt works on savory dishes like meats, veggies, or even popcorn, while the sugar shines in desserts, drinks, and fruit. The yuzu flavor is unique and feels fancy without being hard to use. Plus, the jars are a decent size (2.5 oz each), so they last a while if you’re not going wild with them.
Cons: It’s a bit pricey for the amount you get, but I guess that’s because yuzu is rare and imported. Also, the sugar blend can clump a little if not stored properly, so keep it in a dry spot. Lastly, if you’re not into bold citrus flavors, this might be a bit much for you.
Overall: I’d give this set a solid 4.5/5. It’s a fun way to add a unique twist to everyday cooking and baking. I’m already planning to gift a set to my foodie friend for her birthday—she’s gonna lose it over these! If you’re curious about yuzu or just want to jazz up your dishes, this set is totally worth a try.
